लग्नाच्या वेळी वाचलेल्या पैशातून शीलाने भाड्याची खोली घेतली आणि काही दागिने गहाण ठेवले आणि त्याच पैशातून एक छोटेसे दुकान उघडले. शीलाला सुरुवातीला खूप त्रास सहन करावा लागला पण काही वर्षांनी तिने त्या वातावरणाशी जुळवून घेतलं होतं. शीलाच्या स्वाभिमानी जीवनाची नांगी आता गावभर वाजू लागली होती आणि हे प्रकरण शीलाच्या भावाच्या कानापर्यंत पोहोचले होते. बारा वर्षांनंतर शीलाचा भाऊ लाजलेल्या चेहऱ्याने शीलाचा दर गाठला. भावाला बघून शीलाला जुन्या गोष्टी आठवल्या पण तिने त्या सगळ्या गोष्टींना नकार देत भावाचे आनंदाने स्वागत केले.आणि बहिणीचा सुखी-समृद्ध संसार पाहून भावाला पश्चाताप झाला.
